Celebrating Women in Construction Week: How Cornell Roofing & Sheet Metal Champions Women in the Trades

Every March, the construction industry comes together to recognize National Women in Construction (WIC) Week, a nationwide celebration of the contributions, leadership, and growing presence of women in the trades. National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) WIC Week shines a spotlight on women who are shaping the future of building, design, management, and skilled trades across the country.

At Cornell Roofing & Sheet Metal, we’re proud to stand alongside NAWIC Greater Kansas City Chapter #100 as sponsors and advocates. As a long-standing Kansas City leader in commercial roofing and sheet metal, Cornell Roofing believes in uplifting women in every corner of the construction profession.

What is WIC Week and Why It Matters

Women in Construction Week takes place annually the first full week of March to celebrate the vital contributions women make in an industry historically dominated by men. The week promotes awareness of career opportunities, highlights role models, and brings industry professionals together for networking, education, and community events.

Across the Kansas City metro, NAWIC Chapter #100 hosts events like the Annual WIC Week Kick-Off Breakfast at the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium, of which Cornell Roofing and Sheet Metal is a proud sponsor.  Events like this focus on bringing together professionals, apprentices, and allies to celebrate women in the trades.

Supporting Women, Strengthening the Industry

At Cornell Roofing and Sheet Metal, supporting WIC Week is more than sponsorship, it reflects who we are as a company. As a proud supporter of NAWIC’s mission, we:

  • Highlight the accomplishments of women in construction roles, from the field to the office

  • Encourage young women and girls to explore careers in skilled trades through scholarships and other community programs.

  • Provide mentorship, opportunity, and pathways to leadership within our own teams.

This commitment aligns with our broader belief that diversity, inclusion, and opportunity make our industry stronger and more innovative.

Building Community, One Roof at a Time

Since 1927, Cornell Roofing and Sheet Metal has served the Greater Kansas City region with quality craftsmanship and a deep commitment to community involvement. Our participation in WIC Week and partnership with NAWIC Greater Kansas City Chapter #100 is just one example of how we contribute to progress within the industry by celebrating women, supporting professional development, and paving the way for future trades professionals.

As WIC Week continues to grow each year, we look forward to further empowering women in construction, strengthening local partnerships, and continuing the legacy of excellence that has defined our company for nearly a century.
